Murray River Trails
Based in Renmark, Murray River Trails offers immersive, small-group wildlife adventures along Australia’s greatest river.
Set in the heart of South Australia's Riverland, the Murray River Safari takes you deep into the internationally recognised Riverland Ramsar Wetland — a living haven of ancient red gum forests, abundant wildlife, and more than 180 bird species.
This four-day adventure combines guided walks, canoeing, open-back cruising, and outback drives with the comfort of a luxury houseboat stay. Along the way, you might spot koalas, kangaroos, emus, and lace monitors, or enjoy birdwatching from a private pontoon cruiser or as you paddle through calm, winding backwaters. Guided walks take you across dramatic clifftops, through mallee woodlands and riverine forests, home to wedge-tailed eagles, honeyeaters, and migratory rainbow bee-eaters.
Founded by Riverland locals Tony and Susie Sharley, this experience is deeply rooted in conservation and storytelling. You’re invited to participate in citizen science initiatives and discover the region’s rich ecology, culture, and environmental challenges. Paired with gourmet local dining and a strong sustainability ethos, Murray River Safari offers a uniquely Australian river journey, blending nature, comfort, and connection.
